Crochet Yourself a Ring

Want a quick little project that's super easy and whips up in a flash?  Check out this crocheted ring I made recently in under 30 minutes!  I haven't ever really been one for crocheted jewelry, although I do think that some of it is lovely and unique, but when I ran across this pattern link I was intrigued and decided to give it a try.

 
 There are three different ring patterns included in the PDF, however I only tried one because the other two were too large for my liking.  So here is my version of the ring in two different colors:

Amigurumi Love Birds for Valentine's Day

Hello everyone! I have been in a bit of a crochet 'slump' lately. Or I guess I should say things kept getting in the way of my crochet, which is what put me in the slump. I just couldn't seem to get any of my crochet projects finished! Things that should have taken me a day, were taking me a week due to distractions, interruptions and just 'life' in general. Thankfully things seem to be looking up in that area lately, and I finished my little amigurumi 'Love Birds" in time for Valentine's day.

These little birds were so easy to make and worked up quickly as well. Perfect for a last minute Valentine's Day gift!

Amigurumi Hearts for Valentine's Day ~ Love is in the Air!

Just as fast as the Christmas and New Year's holidays were over, here comes Valentine's Day sneaking up on me, as most holidays do! Valentine's Day is so much more relaxed than Christmas though, and I always have fun with Valentine's Day crafting. I started a little earlier than normal this year because I couldn't wait to try out a pattern I found for these little amigurumi style hearts. The pattern is from Mia Zamora Johnson of Owlishly.

The pattern includes instructions for hearts in 3 different sizes, large, medium and small. I ended up making one of each.

These hearts were so much fun to crochet and they worked up really quickly too. I made all three of them in one day.

I know turquoise is not a traditional Valentine's day color, but I love it so much I couldn't resist. I'm thinking I will make a key chain out of this one.

Gourmet Crochet Mystery Crochet-a-Long Update

I'm having a great time with the Mystery Afghan crochet-a-long over at Gourmet Crochet. I've been a bit behind, but I'm almost caught up now. The group is on square #7, and I finished my 6th square today. Hopefully I will finish square #7 tonight, and do the edging and square #8 tomorrow. At that point I will be completely caught up!

I wanted to post a few pictures of my squares so far. (I haven't taken pics of 4, 5 & 6 yet, but here are the first 3). I'm using scrap yarn, as are many of the other participants, and I'm a bit nervous that they won't all match well in the end. But I do love these colors I'm using!

Square #1 in Turqoise. I love turquoise....it's de-li-cious and did you know that Pantone, which tracks colors in the fashion and home-décor industries, has named turquoise the "Color of 2010"?

Square #2 in Pale Pink, it looks white in this picture for some reason.

Square #3 in Orchid.

These squares work up really quickly, and the patterns are all variations on the shell stitch. I usually have such a torturous time crocheting an afghan! I just loathe the thought of sitting down and crocheting 50 or 60 squares exactly the same. I just don't have that kind of attention span. But because I do love the afghans when they are finished, I will once in awhile bite the bullet and make one. I think the reason I'm so excited about this crochet along is that making this afghan will be so easy, just crochet one square per day...that's it... and move on to other things until the next day's square. I'll still have time to work on my amigurumi projects, which I always look so forward to.

Speaking of amigurumi, I'm also finishing up another little amigurumi doll similar to my 'Emily' doll from a previous post. This one will be just a little different, but every bit as cute! I'll post pictures of her when she's finished, which should be within the week.

I hope all of you are staying warm and cozy during this recent cold snap. I know I am. We usually don't get a lot of snow here in Georgia, but this time we got a few inches. Here are some pictures that I took from my back window. It was actually snowing when I took them, but it doesn't show in the pictures.

A Christmas Angel

Christmas is almost upon us and everywhere you go people are scurrying around trying to get ready for the celebration.  I'm still busy crocheting and just today finished another Christmas amigurumi.  This amigurumi was inspired by something that no Christmas decoration, story, poem or song would be complete without...the Angel.  In fact, angels are one of the things we associate with Christmas the most.  Rarely will you see a Christmas display without angels! 

I recently read an article about Christmas decorations, traditions and symbols, in which there were a few interesting facts about angels.  For instance, it was in the Old Testament of Christianity that angels were first described as having human bodies and wings, which is why traditional pictures of angels, or stories about angels, portray them this way.  Wings are said to be symbolic of Innocence, Virtue, Purity, Peace and Love. The perfect description of an angel!  Many believe that angels protect us, and that we all have a 'guardian angel', and further that these angels are intermediaries between us and God.

So here is my little Christmas angel.  She is a "Kokeshi" style angel.  Kokeshi dolls are handmade wooden dolls that originated in northern Japan.  The main characteristic of Kokeshi dolls is that they are simply a head and torso, without arms or legs.  These little dolls are also popular among amigurumi artists and are very easy to make due to the fact that there are no arms or legs to sew on!

I'm having quite a hard time finding motivation these past few weeks, and I'm sure it's just the holiday blues.  Christmas last year, as well as this year have been especially difficult for me since my dad died last year.  Thankfully life right now is not requiring me to do a lot or I'd be in trouble.  So I'm trying to be good to myself and am giving myself permission to 'slack', even though I feel very guilty when I do.  I did however manage to round up some of my free pattern links so that I could share them with all of you.  There are so many beautiful crochet works and some amazingly talented crafters to be found.  I could literally spend hours going from site to site just taking it all in!
