My Amigurumi Doll Adventure

I recently crocheted a doll, which was kinda sorta my very first original design. Although it actually wasn't intentional. The whole thing, from start to finish, turned out to be pretty funny. Well funny now, but at the time not so funny! I really wanted to make an amigurumi doll since I had been crocheting only animals since discovering Amigurumi. So I started working from a doll pattern and realized quite some way into it that I had messed up. So rather than pulling it out and starting over, I got brave and decided to 'improvise'. I worked from a different doll pattern that seemed like it would work with my 'mistake'. And it did...to a point. When it was no longer coming together I pulled from yet another pattern and went back and forth between the 3 patterns. Arms from one, legs and shoes from another, dress, face and hair from a 3rd. And some just-doin-my-own-thing! You get the idea. Somehow it all came together in the end and after much frustration I finished my doll.

Well, almost finished, I should say. This being my first attempt at crocheting a doll, I didn't realize that if you use regular weight yarn for the hair it is going to end up THICK. I mean REALLY thick!!

I'm still trying to decide what to do with her hair. It's pulled back in a bread tie right now! Lol.

I thought about leaving it alone, naming her "Molly Mop Top" ...you know, like her hair is suppose to be that way.........and being done with it. And I may still.

Also, as you probably already noticed, she doesn't have a mouth yet either. I was so tired of messing with her after the whole 3-pattern-fiasco, I set her aside to be finished later. I must admit, however, that her hair is growing on me, so I've decided to go ahead and post pics of her and keep thinking about what to do with her hair.

She is still a work in progress, and I will post pictures of her along the way, as well as when she is finally finished for realz!

I love her little Mary Janes!

My little pink fawn is so curious! She always has to check out and do a 'meet and greet' with the new amigurumi arrivals!

I'm still working on my 'Hello Kitty Angel'. I'm happy to report that she is almost finished despite working from a very poorly translated version of a Japanese pattern. But that's another story...............

I'll close with a video that is sure to make you laugh. This little guy is too cute for his own good! Enjoy!

Thanks for visiting!

  2. Very nice work! I love how you've posed her with her hands behind her back; it's so sweet. And I agree with Itsy Bitsy - I love the thick hair. Please don't change it!

If your first doll is this good, I can't wait to see what your next one will look like :)

  3. Your doll turned out so pretty and I think her hair looks beautiful. It sounds like she was a lot of trouble, but in the end, that made her turn out to be even more unique! I can't wait to see the hello kitty angel...how cute!
